It’s been four years since the last release by Arctic Monkeys and perhaps they needed more time after listening to their latest track Body Paint.
This is their second single from their seventh studio album The Car and like the previous single, There’d Better Be a Mirrorball, it’s nothing like the Arctic Monkeys we’ve grown accustom to.
The lyrics, similar to the music video are a mindless jumble, and the soulful vibes echo the calls for the band to return to their roots in the rock style of the past. The melody never unifies and reaches a juxtaposition to previous songs from albums such as AM.
The music video gives little explanation as to what is occurring, and the more mature image of Alex Turner gives off a sense of him being a poor man’s David Tennant.
The song represents a move away from rock roots and into Adult Orientated Rock which doesn’t work for them and Alex Turner especially isn’t cut out to sing in a high vocal range.
The Car is the band’s seventh album following 2018’s Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino and follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, disappointing fans.
If you want to listen to the Arctic Monkeys do a song that’s worth your time it might be worth joining me in going back to 505.
