The main final of Eurovision 2023 is on Saturday, and sees a host of acts vying for victory in Liverpool. With returning acts such as 2012 winner Loreen and new acts such as Brit Mae Muller this weekend’s final is set up to be a spectacle you won’t want to miss.
The first semi final, which took place on Tuesday night, saw the two favourites Sweden and Finland take centre stage as they both made it through to the final with Norway, Serbia, Portugal, Croatia, Switzerland, Israel, Moldova and Czechia all joining them.
Sweden are heavy favourites going into Saturday night with Loreen and her song “Tattoo” and victory would make Loreen just the second person to win twice, after Johnny Logan won representing Ireland. Finland are hefty second favourites as well at 9/4 (Bet365) with their song “Cha Cha Cha” by Käärijä as they look for their first victory since 2006.
The second semi final took place on Thursday night with Denmark, Romania, Iceland, Greece, Georgia and San Marino crashing out. Austria were the favourites to make the final going into the second semi final and this was proven to be a correct assumption as the Austrians will open the Grand Final, currently ranking at 10th favourite to win the entire competition.
Albania and Slovenia were the only nations to make it through the semis that did not sing any part of their songs in English and will be hoping they can use this to their advantage on Saturday night.
As for the “big five” who have automatic qualification to the final each year, France are the favourite to win the whole thing coming in at 15/2 and are third favourite out of all the nations represented with their artist La Zarra and their song Évidemment which will be sixth in the grand final.
Spain are coming in at second favourites out of the big five with odds of 16/1 with Eaea by Blanca Paloma who will be on just after France at number 8.
Mae Muller and the United Kingdom are next in the odds coming out at 40/1 with her song I wrote a Song looking to get the Brits back on top for the first time since 1997 as she performs last (26th) in proceedings .
Italy with Marco Mengoni and Due Vite pricing in at 50/1 looking to achieve victory for the second time in the last three years after Maneskin’s victory in 2021. Germany are the least likely of the big five to win according to Bet365 pricing in at 150/1 with their song Blood and Glitter by Lord of the Lost.
It looks to be an interesting spectacle this year and you can catch the final live on BBC One or on demand on BBC iPlayer starting 8pm on Saturday 13th May 2023.
