At least eight people have been injured including four children at a fire in a flat at York St John University that started around 9:30 this morning.  

Paramedics were treating those pulled out of the building by the firefighters.  

Outside the scene emergency service vehicles were everywhere, police were cordoning off the scene and paramedics were treating the injured. 

Firefighters were observed wearing masks when entering and departing the building dragging unconscious bodies with them.  

Dorian Dramer, 25, said that her and her partner Damian Dramer, 26, were on a “very special date” celebrating their five-year anniversary and when they returned to their friend’s apartment, they found smoke and fire and that they “didn’t know what was going on”. 

An uninjured man Jake Clinton, 21 said that his brother was “inside” and that as soon as he saw “smoke” he fled the scene.  

It is unknown what caused the fire at this time and emergency services are not releasing details.
