Driver strikes have played a big part in the cancellations and with more industrial action in the pipeline many people are still fearful of their service being cancelled. The impact of the trains being reduced could mean services are more expensive with people already struggling amidst the cost-of-living crisis a price hike in rail prices could see people feeling the pinch even further.

We reached out to TransPennine Express for a comment and received the following statement from Chris Jackson, managing director [VO] “This provides us with a great opportunity to restore reliability and stability to our services.
There will be some temporary amendments to the timetable to deliver improved punctuality and reliability for customers. The timetable will be restored in 2024.” [VO]
