York Knights take on Batley Bulldogs as the Knights look to get their first victory of the season.
In their most recent fixture York lost 18-10 at home to Halifax Panthers, after beating the Panthers in the AB Sundecks 1895 cup 32-20 just the fixture before.
Meanwhile the Bulldogs were knocked out of the Challenge Cup in their most recent fixture, suffering a heavy 62-4 defeat to Super League side Leigh Leopards.
The Knights currently sit 12th in the championship with three losses, second from bottom and only ahead of Hunslet on points difference having scored 20 and conceded 75.
Batley sit in 7th place midtable, with a victory and a draw having only played two matches with their victory being a 28-20 win over Widnes Vikings, their other result being a 18-18 draw with Oldham.
This game comes at a bad time for the Knights as their injury problems have gone from bad to worse with full-back Will Dagger potentially being out for up to four months after getting a quad injury in the warmup of the defeat to Panthers.
Boss Mark Applegarth has said that initial signs do not look promising.
“Obviously we lost Will Dagger in the warm-up,” he explained. “He was just doing kick-offs believe it or not, and he’s looking like he’s going to have a lengthy layoff of two to four months.
“We’ve had a scan, and he’s got some tendon ruptures around his hip flexor, so that doesn’t sound pretty round his quad.”
Ata Hingano is also out of Sunday’s match with a fractured hand that he played half a match with in the defeat to Halifax.
“Ata Hingano broke his hand halfway through the game, he played half a game with a broken hand,” Applegarth confirmed.
“He’s looking at three to four weeks, so I guess the bye week has given him that extra week and hopefully he’ll only miss one to two weeks tops.”
Prop Conor Fitzsimmons (calf), Jacob Gannon (cyst) and O’Neill (hamstring) are all also expected to miss the Bulldogs game but Joe Law is back for the game this weekend and Joe Brown is expected to be fit enough to endure another full match after making a late switch to replace Dagger against the Panthers.
The Bulldogs will be without prop Luke Cooper who could be out until June with a pectoral tear and will also be without Lucas Walshaw who has damaged knee ligaments.
A victory for the Knights could see them rise as high as 8th whereas defeat could see them routed at the foot of the table should Hunslet upset Toulouse.
Whereas for the Bulldogs a win could propel them up to 2nd in the table behind the Panthers by a point.
Tickets are still available and the match kicks off at 3pm on Sunday at Batley Bulldog Fox’s Biscuits Stadium.
